Museum of The Ancient Orient

The building, constructed in 1883 as The Fine Arts Academy, was converted into a museum by work done in 1917-1919 and 1932-1935. It was opened to visitors in 1963 and reopened in 1974 after changes some interior. It is a two-storied building. On the top floor works of art from Anatolia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Arabia are exhibited. These include the stele (stone or wooden slab) of the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II, the Kades Agreement, and unique works from the Zincirli Museum of Sculpture. Also, in the museum are 75,000 documents in cuneiform writing, the "Tablet Archives."
