Anadolu Hisar
The outer ramparts were added by Mehmet the Conqueror when he built the castle at Rumeli. The castle lost its military value after Istanbul was conquered. Over time the vicinity became a settled community. Anadolu Hisar is made up of an outer and inner fort and the surrounding walls. The four-storied inner fort is rectangular. As no gate into the castle was made when it was first constructed, the castle was entered by a suspension bridge from the walls. The upper floors were reached by wooden stairs inside the fort.
The inner fort connects the outer walls to the northeast and southwest corners. These walls are three meters thick, with several arches, and three protecting towers. The actual walls are 65 meters long from east to west, 80 meters long from north to south, they are 2.5 meters thick. There are holes in the outer walls from cannon balls. Blocks of stone mixed with mortar were used between the castle itself and the inner walls. A road now passes through the middle of the castle, parts of which have been destroyed.
